| 4:00pm - 6:00pm | How Will RDA Impact Your System?: A Forum of Vendors Discussing Implementation Plans | Forum/Update |
Anaheim Convention Center 204B |
Description :
Now that Resource Description and Access (RDA) has been published and the three national libraries have announced their implementation decision, it is time to hear from the vendors that design our integrated library systems and bibliographic utilities. What changes will they make to accommodate RDA? How will these changes impact library staff workflows and ultimately the library user's experience? Come and hear the vendors discuss their development plans and timelines for implementing required changes. Representatives from Innovative Interfaces, Inc., Sirsi-Dynix, Ex Libris, SkyRiver, TLC, Follett, and Capstone will present their plans and will entertain questions and comments about their proposed system changes. | 8:00am - 10:00am | iPads for Staff Use | Program |
Anaheim Convention Center 207B |
Description :
The popularity of Apple products for mobile access has increased staff demand. Cost and incompatibility issues with the ILS and Active Directory make it challenging to support Macs and loaner iPads don’t allow staff to fully realize the tablet’s potential. Duke Libraries have begun to deploy iPads for individual use paired with PC desktops to address compatibility issues and offset cost. This presentation will discuss implementation, budgeting, and staff experience of the program. Interests :

| 8:00am - 10:00am | Kuali OLE: Developing & Implementing a Community Source LMS | Program |
Anaheim Convention Center 213AB |
Description :
Partners from the Kuali OLE (Open Library Environment) project will demonstrate the latest release of OLE software, which will allow libraries to develop workflows breaking away from print-based models and reflecting the changing nature of library materials. Features include: a ‘format-agnostic’ document store that can include structured content (e.g. MARCXML) and unstructured content (e.g. PDF licenses); workflow tools (e.g. action lists, batch-processing tools); and integration tools. Partners will discuss migration and implementation plans. Did you attend this program? Take our post-conference survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/alctsevents2012 Interests :

| 11:30am - 12:00pm | Ignite Session: It's Not Your Catalog | Program |
Anaheim Convention Center 208A Table 6 |
Description :
Ignite speakers present for exactly 5 minutes, accompanied by 20 slides. Each slide is displayed for 15 seconds, with slides advancing automatically. This is one of six Ignite sessions in this time slot. Hey librarians, if you wanna mess around with AACR2 formatting, MARC fields, and esoterica like the size of the book then fire up your cataloging app. But keep your technical hands off of the one user-facing interface for the library collection. The library's catalog must be designed for users, so what can we work on to bring about immediate change? Interests :
