Hear from speakers who've successfully built public library/correctional setting partnerships, and learn how to build these kinds of relationships step-by-step. Public librarians and correctional librarians interested in creating literacy and reading program partnerships for youth in detention centers and adults in jails or prisons will not want to miss this half-day workshop that will cover such difficult issues of collection development, security, and staff interactions.

Charge: To serve as the ALA representative of rare book, manuscript, and other special collections librarians and curators in all matters involving standards for providing intellectual access to and bibliographic description of those collections; to provide a centralized forum for discussion of issues relating to special collections technical processing, such as description, cataloging, and provision of intellectual access; to propose and/or develop necessary tools to support these activities; to develop ALA positions on, and provide a continuing review of, bibliographic standards for special collections;

Turning the Page 2.0 addresses core issues of advocacy, communications and relationship building in a convenient blended-learning format. This half-day kickoff introduces librarians and supporters to the 6-week course, which will include virtual classroom sessions and self-paced online work aimed at completing an individual advocacy work plan. Attendance at this meeting is encouraged but not mandatory for the 6-week course. Come and hear how librarians and administrators from libraries of all sectors showcase creative strategies and practices in developing sustainable partnerships with local organizations. Presenters will discuss case studies of international collaborations between U.S. and international libraries that represent innovative practices in developing program proposals, mobilizing community support, and raising funds. Speaker session on Intellectual Freedom issues of the day.

This program will outline a theoretically driven pragmatic approach to leadership by presenting leadership styles and appropriate applications to give the participants a solid cookbook approach to resolving various situational and structural issues.

Jay Johnston is Director of the Farmington Libraries, Farmington CT. His vision, knowledge of technology, coalition building skills, and belief in the importance of the public library sustain his dedication to a staff-centered, customer-focused, high-energy leadership model.

Christine Bradley is currently the director of Norwalk Public Library.

Faced with growing e-collections, more interesting e-content from publishers and a struggle to balance our materials budgets, how do we make good decisions about e-collections content? How do we evaluate the success of e-books when many of these patrons never darken the doors of our library building? How do we gain the valuable patron feedback beyond download statistics? What support issues arise around use of the collections, are the vendor platforms reliable, and what e-formats are most in demand? Hear how representatives from both public and academic libraries are measuring the success and challenges of their e-book collections.

Meeting of all the International Relations Committee (IRC) and the International Relations Round Table (IRRT).

Serves as a liaison group between the education community within ACRL/ALA and the Education Resources Information Center’s personnel and the Department of Education by keeping the education community informed of changes occurring with ERIC and the Department of Education and acting as an advocate for the education community by formally presenting concerns and issues to ERIC and the DOE. Part of the Consolidated Meeting.

Provides a forum for librarians interested in bibliographic instruction in education and explores the opportunities and issues encountered by librarians serving schools, colleges, and departments of education in colleges and universities. Part of the Consolidated Meeting.
