Join us for the fourth American Indian Youth Literature Awards presentation. This award identifies and honors the very best writing and illustrations by and about American Indians. The program will include speakers, awards presentations, and a cultural performance.

Social offers a chance for members to network and meet new members. Cash bar, with appetizers served. Donations encouraged to covers costs.

Join us for this special event to congratulate the children's authors and illustrators who have received this year's Newbery and Caldecott medals and honors. This gala evening celebrates the year's most distinguished books for children. Cocktails (cash bar) and mingling will be available prior to dinner. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. this event requires pre-registration.

Library school students are invited to network in a relaxed environment and learn more about ALA from unit representatives, NMRT Leadership, and experienced ALA members. The Student Chapter of the Year Award is presented and light refreshments will be served.

Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served along with a dynamic presentation from Mark Quigley, Manager of the Research and Study Center at the UCLA film and Television Archive and Stephen Davison, Head of the UCLA Digital Library Program. Both these leaders collaborated to create the UCLA silent animation preservation program. This program has produced a website which offers eleven animation films from the silent era, for viewing online or download along with the accompanying music files also available for download. The films cover a variety of silent animation productions, and are provided alongside authoritative technical and historical context.

All are invited to the CALA Awards Banquet to celebrate the excellence in librarianship and the success in promoting diversity and international collaboration. The awards ceremony where the first ever Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction will be announced and presented! Hear the winning authors and other high-profile speakers. Meet, mingle, and celebrate with the literary luminaries on the shortlist, with Nancy Pearl, Carnegie Corporation leaders, ALA leaders, and your adult-book-loving colleagues. Funded through a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York, and cosponsored by ALA’s Booklist and Reference and User Services Association (RUSA).

Fahrenheit 451 - Francois Truffault got the honor of filming this 1966 adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic dystopian novel, starring Julie Christie and Oskar Werner. Set in a world of massive censorship and hyper surveillance, Fahrenheit 451 never ceases to be provocative in any of its forms. To be followed by a discussion of the film, the book, and the continued relevance of Bradbury's vision.
