Please join us for a session focused on mass deacidification. We will start off with Jeanne Drewes, Chief of Binding & Collections Care Division, Program Manager of the Mass Deacidification Dept., and Preservation Directorate, Library of Congress, offering a recap of her AIC lecture “Taking the Measure: Treatment and Testing in Mass Deacidification.” We will follow with a panel discussion on mass deacidification from the practitioners’ point of view, asking whether reliance on "Mass D." has changed over time, if the decision-making processes surrounding what to send for treatment have been amended, and if there have been any noticeable changes in treated materials over time.

Our panelists represent institutions in varying stages of initiating new programs and managing established ones. They are Scott Devine, Head of Preservation, Northwestern University; Kate Contakos, Head of Preservation, Stanford University; Renate Mesmer, Head of Conservation, Folger Shakespeare Library; and Sue Kellerman, Judith O. Sieg Chair for Preservation, Penn State University.
